Shadow Lamp _ Derek Han
This lamp is showing my world view. As a Christian and an artist, I always think about making the world better and I found the answer would be LOVE. I wanted to show that only love can make love. The first thing came across my mind was trees. If I put heart in soil and pour water, I will get many hearts. Thinking of this process leaded me to a shadow. One heart makes a shadow of heart. In order to make the shadow, I begin think about making lamp.
The work starts with my sketch of the shape of thinking shadow and the design of a lamp. Then I found right light bulb; normally light bulbs make multiple shadows so I needed to find a one resource light bulb to make one shadow just like the sun. Next, I decide the size and what kind of light bulb I need to use because it will affect the lamp size and size of the object that makes the shadow.
After that, I used a 3D modeling tool, design the shadow object and the lamp. And then, made prototype model and assembly together. I remade the prototype model again and again until I satisfy with the result. Lastly, I made the actual lamp using a laser cutter.
I chose to use wood as a main material because this whole idea came from the tree at the beginning. I will continue to work on my lamp, experimenting with the final touch and finish to get the most impact out of it.

Pepekura model
When I and Denise got together to plan what we wanted to make for our Pepekura model, we decided that each of us would come up with 2 models. Afterwards, we would choose the best design for our sculpture. I really like the work of Brancusi , and Denise is a big fan of Barbara Hepworth . We wanted to get inspiration from both artists to create our sculpture.
After we decided on the best model out of our 4 pieces we sent it back and forth between us. We were trying to improve and refine the different art designs which we then integrated into our sculpture. We used many different tools from Rhino to create our design,Maya to make sure of a low polygon count and refine polygons. We hit a little snag at first, because, I thought that we needed to have a model with 300 polygons or more. We initially had our model ready with 1800 polygons, so, back to the drawing board to fix our model.
After many hours of working on our model we both agreed that it was ready for production and started on the road to get ready for Pepakura. We exported our design as an OBJ file and loaded up into the Pepakura Designer to create the flat sheet to build our 3d art. We took the cut pieces back into rhino, then used Grasshopper script to create dash and dotted lines for the folds on our model.
It took about about 7 hours for us to put our model together, and 2 hours to paint it, We used a combination of colors to give depth and texture.

Waffle Structures - Model of X
I chose the "model of X"which was in Atec building. I want to make it waffle structure.
I used "Sweep1" for the one arch and then copy and rotate it to make the other arch. and I used Bend and Twist to make a shape and With BooleanUnion I made them to one model.
lastly I cut the bottom shape with the surface I make with Line and Extrudecurve bothway.
lastly I covered that spots with the Polarsurface.
After modeling, I used script "cut may ribs" but it's not worked well.
Problem
Because the some of pieces of model I made has a "C" shape, and I need to make two slots at upper and bottom arch on at the same line at the same time. But it looks like that the piece is disappeared after one of slot is made.
To solve the problem, I had to find the pieces which has no slot and disappeared and I draw slots directly on the shapes where I want to make a slot. and then trimmed them.
solve the problem
Massing form and grill-age form extruded to 0.25 inches
and then I used the other script to spread out every pieces and to get rid of small pieces I don't want, I used Curveboolean.

I figured out why we need "numbering" and Waffle structure is stronger than I though even though It made by paper and also looks cool.
Modular Slots - Spring
Because of the inclement weather, I am looking forward to spring. I want to make something related with spring like butterflies, flowers, and leaves.
I used Illustrator to make the lines.
The size of slot is 0.13x1 because I am going to use cardboard.
I used magenta color for outer cutting, blue color for inner cutting.
and I was trying to fill with the models because the rest of the material is going to be garbage.
Rhino File
I composed "Spring" with butterflies, flowers and leaves which are laser-cut.
